By the time their killing spree ended, Los Angeles had discovered not just killers, but a nightmare.

From a young age, Doug had violent sexual fantasies that became more disturbing over time. He was fascinated by death and had a history of manipulation and cruel relationships.

Their relationship started with the enjoyment of pain behavior, but quickly spiraled into something far worse.
Doug's fantasies of murder and attraction to dead bodies found an eager partner in Carol who was desperate for his love and willing to do anything to keep his attention.
The two turned Los Angeles into their hunting ground, Targeting vulnerable young women and committing horrifying crimes that shocked even experienced investigators.

Doug's manipulative charm and predatory nature worked perfectly with Carol's seemingly quiet and obedient personality. Together, they lure unsuspecting victims into their deadly trap.
Doug's ultimate fantasy, as Carol later revealed, was to kill a woman during sex and experience her dying spasms. To fulfill this dark desire, Carol purchased two pistols, enabling Doug to carry out their shared depravity.
,:Doug intimidated the terrified teens into degrading sexual acts to assert his control. He then coldly shot each girl in the head, killing them instantly.
Their bodies were discarded near Griffith park, sparking fear and outrage in the community as it became clear a ruthless killer was on the loose. The violence then continued. On June 24, when Carol Lee Jones and Exe Le Fay Wilson fell into Doug's and Carol's trap.
Doug lured them into his car under the pretense of being friendly, but the situation quickly turned sinister. Both women were horrifically abused and then shot to death in a shocking act of cruelty. Wilson's severed head was later found in the freezer.
Carol actively participated in these crimes, applying makeup to Wilson's head so Doug could use it as a sex toy. In calling it her Barbie, this grotesque detail highlighted Carol's deep detachment from reality and her shared pleasure in the violence.
As the summer went on, the crimes became more personal. Carol's next victim was Jack Murray, her on and off lover and confidant. Carol grew paranoid that Murray might report their crimes to the police.
In a chilling betrayal, she lured him into a vulnerable position and shot him.
She then decapitated his body and left his remains in the couple's Van. Killing someone so close to her showed how far Carol had fallen into the darkness and how desperate she was to protect herself and Doug. These murders were not random. They were carefully planned, Unimaginably cruel.
Doug and Carol seemed to encourage each other's darkest impulses, growing more violent over time. And they acted without guilt or remorseless, leaving behind a trail of devastation not only for the victims families, but for society as a whole.

During his trial, Doug denied any guilt and controversially chose to represent himself in court. He used this opportunity to blame Carol for everything, claiming she was his sole perpetrator. But the evidence against him was undeniable.
